In Australia dietary guidlines changed in the 1980’s with a low-fat diet recommeneded for everyone.
There was a problem with these guidelines was that there was NO EVIDENCE to support this blanket approach!
The mainstream approach to dieting has been centred around two core principles: ‘fat is bad’ and ‘count your calories’. Since the introduction of this advice, the prevalence of obesity has more than tripled to and now more than 50% of Australians are overweight.
The large number of people who have tried and failed to sustain weight loss through this approach shows it is time to try something new.
